Kräuter Mix renews EMAS registration and publishes comprehensive sustainability report
Kräuter Mix is proud to have held certification across the areas of sustainability as well as environmental and climate protection since 2015, giving an official seal of approval to the company’s consistent progress. Now, the company has renewed its Eco-management and Audit Scheme (EMAS) registration for 2026, after successfully passing its most recent audit in late April.
EMAS requires consistency
EMAS builds on the globally recognized ISO 14001 environmental management standard, but its requirements are distinctly more stringent. Among other things, it mandates employee involvement in the chosen management system and requires said system to clearly delegate respective responsibility. To remain registered, companies must also implement a strategic environmental policy and clear sustainability targets, ensure verification from a state-accredited environmental verifier and publish an environmental statement.
Going above and beyond: Publishing a sustainability report complete with EMAS environmental statement
To achieve EMAS registration, companies must prove they take environmental stewardship seriously, and Kräuter Mix is no exception. In fact, this year the manufacturer of air-dried plant-based raw materials is going above and beyond the requirement to publish an environmental statement and is instead publishing a comprehensive sustainability report – including an integrated environmental statement.
Of course, this decision was not made overnight. As early as last year, Kräuter Mix took action to meet the anticipated reporting requirements of the EU’s Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD). While the subsequent intense political debate has since clarified that medium-sized family-owned businesses like Kräuter Mix do not in fact fall within the directive’s scope, the company has nonetheless decided to leverage the internal expertise already developed in-house to produce an in-depth sustainability report.

More time for sustainability
In fact, the company has already capitalized on the added value, but by externally communicating its work, it hopes to extend the benefit to all its stakeholders. Janna Seufert, who heads the sustainability management team here at Kräuter Mix, frames it as follows: “Sustainability legislation in recent years has generated strong momentum. Despite the evolving regulatory framework, we remain committed to maintaining this momentum and to directing our resources even more strategically toward improving our sustainability performance.” This year marked the first time that Kräuter Mix’s sustainability lead was responsible for both the EMAS audit and the reporting process. She now has good reason to celebrate the renewed EMAS registration alongside the company’s very first sustainability report.
