Cyclists help disadvantaged children

Kräuter Mix employees rode a total of 16,125 kilometers for the “Cycle to Work” campaign in 2023. Sixty-three members of staff took part in the initiative, which was held all over Germany and was organized by the medical insurer AOK. Forty of them completed their commute by bicycle on at least twenty days of the year, fulfilling the aim of the initiative.

Employees donate their holiday treat

What a gift! Kräuter Mix has donated a total of 3840 euros to non-profit Mix for Kids. Each year, the company gifts its employees a holiday treat to mark the winter break, with options including a Christmas tree, hamper or a winter hat and scarf. This year, a fifth of the company’s almost 500 employees decided to forego their holiday gift, instead donating their share to a good cause.

Juniper joy for the business

Juniper has long played a starring role in the product range at Kräuter Mix. From more than 650 raw materials, this blue-black berry with its uniquely fruity flavor profile has been one of the company’s key products for the past ten years now. Back in 2013, the owners of the company Weisgerber, which specialized in juniper berries, were planning to retire and were looking for someone to take over the business.

How a gap filler turned into 35 years

When Axel vom Berg joined Kräuter Mix following his national service, he only ever planned to stay in the short term, and yet this gap filler has now turned into 35 years. Originally from Abtswind, vom Berg has now been working for the company since 1988 – an impressive achievement and a lot of years to look back on! As Head of Production, vom Berg is responsible for 150 employees across the areas of Process Planning and Production.

October 24 is World Spice Day – a time to celebrate the special ingredients that season and flavor our food in so many different ways. Spices are essential ingredients for preparing delicious meals at home, in mass catering and the restaurant industry, and for the industrial production of countless foodstuffs.

From sales to HR and the board of management

Originally hired as a sales manager for exports, today she is a company managing director and is responsible for HR, accounting, finance, controlling, legal affairs, insurance, marketing, corporate communications and IT. Now, Silke Wurlitzer is celebrating 30 years at Kräuter Mix.

Important anniversary in times of digital transformation

IT is the interface between society and software. For 20 years now, it has also been Jürgen Köstner’s area of responsibility at Kräuter Mix. The Head of IT celebrated this professional milestone recently to the congratulations of the board and his team. The problem with the presumed contamination of batches

Industrial purchasing of herbs and spices takes place on an international level. Raw material growers in the various countries of origin do not have comparable hygiene standards. This means that European processors assume a high level of responsibility for the safety of products put on the market. A single instance of salmonella can have major consequences for the companies implicated.

Record number of new apprentices

Kräuter Mix has never had so many new starters! A total of 13 apprentices and trainees embarked on this new phase of their careers in September – a record-breaking number for the company and testament to its intensive recruitment of young talent to counter the shortage of skilled workers. The range of apprenticeships and traineeships at Kräuter Mix is the result of careful HR planning for the future.

Dues paid at Kräuter Mix

After 39 years at the company, Frank Tremml celebrated his last day of work at Kräuter Mix. A long-standing member of the logistics team, Tremml has just retired. At a farewell party, Managing Director Silke Wurlitzer and Deputy Head of Logistics Thomas Zehnder thanked him for his years of hard work and wished him all the best for the future.

41 employees celebrate milestone anniversaries at Kräuter Mix

All together, these employees have clocked up an impressive 770 years at Kräuter Mix, averaging almost 19 years at the company each! This year’s summer party saw the company celebrate 41 employees who have dedicated between 10 and 40 years working for the family business across Production, Logistics, Sales, Purchasing, Quality, Sustainability and Technology Management, IT and the Executive Board.

Next step toward artificial intelligence

Two years of extensive preparations are finally paying off: the top representatives of the 22 founder companies, the Chamber of Industry and Commerce, the Trade Board, the district of Kitzingen and the Technical University of Applied Sciences Würzburg-Schweinfurt have signed the joint contract for the new Technology Transfer Center Kitzingen, Germany, at Kräuter Mix.

The Whole World in My Teacup

Every year, May 21 is a very special day for tea enthusiasts and the German tea industry alike. On the initiative of The German Tea & Herbal Infusions Association, the day is celebrated as the ‘Tag des Tees’, or Tea Day, and the motto for 2023 is ‘The Whole World in My Teacup’. For industrial clients, Kräuter Mix has a wide range of individual ingredients for producing herbal and fruit infusions as well as ready-made blends on offer.

Fruit tea in the fight against cancer

“Otto’s exotic fruit tea” has a very special purpose: to help children with cancer. Kräuter Mix has produced around 400 packets of the flavored blend of hibiscus, apple, rosehip, pineapple, currants, mango, papaya, and orange and has donated them.

The sustainable supply chain

The German Supply Chain Act (LkSG) came into force nationwide on January 1, 2023. The new law aims both to prevent human rights violations in international supply chains and to improve environmental protection. The regulations will initially apply only to large firms, and so Kräuter Mix, with its 500 employees, is not yet affected.

14,150 euros for children in need

Kräuter Mix has donated 14,150 euros to Mix for Kids thanks to two separate Christmas-related campaigns. The company decided that instead of giving small gifts to its business partners it would instead donate 10,000 euros to Mix for Kids. But that’s not all – Kräuter Mix employees donated a further 4150 euros.

What the Oscars are to the film industry, the World Gin Awards are to producers of the much-loved juniper spirit. Every February, gin enthusiasts look eagerly to London when the prizes for the world’s very best gins are awarded across eleven different categories.

Herbs to solve digestive issues in animals

How can you treat digestive problems in dogs and horses naturally using medicinal plants? Kräuter Mix explored this question in an online lecture aimed at customers from the pet food industry and parties with an interest in herbal medicine. Katja Görts, a practicing veterinarian, spoke at the event.

Kräuter Mix swaps four wheels for two

Cycling to work is not only great for your health, but also for the environment too. This year saw 65 Kräuter Mix employees determined to set a good example by taking part in the cycle to work campaign.

Spice up your resumé

The Parentum careers fair in Würzburg, Germany, offered one thousand school-age students and their parents a chance to discover more about potential training opportunities and study programs. Kräuter Mix was pleased to number among the 50 exhibitors at the fair, and its stand met with plenty of interest from visitors.

Kräuter Mix thanks 36 long-standing employees

At its annual anniversary celebration, Kräuter Mix honored 36 employees for their long years of service to the company. The employees from various departments, including Production, Logistics, Sales, Purchasing, Quality Management, Production Planning and Technical Management, have all worked at the company for between 10 and 40 years.

Inflation bonus: 200 euros a month tax free

At the end of September, the German government announced their inflation relief package, including the decision to allow companies to pay their employees an inflation bonus that is exempt from taxes and social-security contributions. Kräuter Mix’s 500 employees are set to benefit from this special voluntary bonus for the first time through the October payroll.

Hannes Schwanfelder scores top marks

It doesn’t get any better than this: Hannes Schwanfelder has completed his three-year vocational training as a food technology specialist at Kräuter Mix with the perfect score of 1.0, the highest possible. In recognition of this impressive achievement, the 19-year-old was awarded the State Prize from the Government of Upper Franconia.

From apprentice to deputy head of logistics

25 years ago, Manuel Senft embarked on a journey in warehouse logistics that he has continued to this day. Back in September 1997, Senft, who was born and raised in Abtswind, started an apprenticeship in warehouse management at Kräuter Mix in his hometown.

From 30 million marks to 140 million euros

This year marks 30 years of employment at Kräuter Mix for Dorell Laudenbach. September saw the head of sales celebrate her work anniversary with congratulations all round, including from her colleagues and managing directors Christoph Mix, Bernhard Mix and Silke Wurlitzer.

First career step for ten young professionals

With two orientation days to kick off their training at Kräuter Mix, a new phase of life has begun for ten young people. Eight apprentices and two student trainees will undergo qualified training in commercial, industrial and technical professions in the coming years.

Free medicinal herb workshop

Digestive problems are a serious issue for dogs and horses, which is why Kräuter Mix is offering a free online workshop from October 25 to November 8, 2022, on the subject. Registration is open until October 17.

An institute for robotics, artificial intelligence and digitalization is set to be established in Kitzingen, Germany – and Kräuter Mix is one of the 15 regional companies contributing to financing the research facility.

How apprentices are helping save energy

How can Kräuter Mix save energy? This is the question that the company’s apprentices set out to answer. As a result, three apprentices became energy scouts. They took part in a further training course on energy efficiency at the Würzburg-Schweinfurt Chamber of Industry and Commerce.

A stage for the world’s best gins

Winning a prize here is a rite of passage for all the world’s hottest juniper spirits: the World Gin Awards. Every year, the Awards see the best gins from around the globe. As a supplier of juniper berries and other botanicals for gin distillation, Kräuter Mix once again numbered among the sponsors for the high-profile event and featured in the international jury of experts.

From gifts to donations

As the holiday season got underway, Kräuter Mix employees were able to choose between three sports-inspired gifts or a donation to the non-profit association Mix for Kids.

Happy Birthday!

70 years young and still active – that’s Christoph Mix, who recently celebrated his milestone 70th birthday on January 8, 2022. Numerous well-wishers expressed their congratulations, both in person and by e-mail as well as in short messages and cards.

41 years at Kräuter Mix

After 41 years of working for Kräuter Mix, Herbert Krenig celebrated his last working day shortly before the winter break. A much-valued member of the logistics team by his superiors and colleagues alike, Krenig said his goodbyes as he left for his retirement. Toward the end of his career, the 65-year-old worked as a warehouse forklift driver.

United against Covid

For the third time this year, Kräuter Mix has held a company-wide vaccination campaign to fight Covid-19. The company is also joining the Germany-wide #ZusammenGegenCorona advertising campaign, #UnitedAgainstCovid in English, even changing its brand slogan to Passion for Piks, or passion for jabs.

2350 euros raised for children in need

Between May and August this year, 72 Kräuter Mix employees covered a total of 15,666 kilometers on their bikes while cycling to work. For every kilometer completed, the company donated 15 euro cents to Mix for Kids, raising a considerable sum for its aid projects in Germany, India and Albania in the process.

A fall forest adventure

In the first company outing since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic, more than 30 Kräuter Mix employees met out in the fresh air for a fall hike through the Ilmbach forest and the vineyards in the Steigerwald Nature Park, Germany.

At its annual anniversary celebration, Kräuter Mix honored 45 employees for their long years of service. The employees from various departments, including Production, Logistics, Quality Management, Technology Management, Sales, Purchasing, Commercial Management, Sustainability Management, Production Planning and the Technical Center, have worked at the company for between ten and 35 years.

2021/2022 Environmental Objectives

Since 2015, Kräuter Mix has held the EMAS certificate, which confirms that the company’s environmental management is both sustainable and exemplary. In 2021, Kräuter Mix successfully passed the main audit conducted by an independent environmental consultant, for which the company had to submit a comprehensive environmental statement specifying its sustainability goals.

19 fire extinguishers for the fire department

The Abtswind fire department is delighted to have received 19 fire extinguishers donated by Kräuter Mix. Company fire safety officer Patrick Mattle handed over the fire extinguishers to fire commanders Wolfgang Kaiser and Sascha Nuß and youth officer Ann-Kathrin Kaiser.

Apprenticeships come to a successful end

The placements are finished, the exams passed: six employees have successfully completed their apprenticeships at Kräuter Mix in 2021 and have been given permanent contracts. Congratulations!

New certification for natural cosmetics

Kräuter Mix has added the Natrue certification for natural cosmetics to its extensive certification portfolio. The internationally recognized Natrue label certifies the organic and natural ingredients in cosmetic products, with Kräuter Mix red, black, brown and blond henna powders now all Natrue approved.

Two apprentice induction days at Kräuter Mix marked the beginning of an exciting new stage in life for nine young people. Seven apprentices, one dual-study student and one trainee will receive quality training in commercial management, as well as in industry and technology-based professions over the coming years. Treat pain naturally

How can you treat orthopedic pain in dogs and horses naturally using medicinal plants? Kräuter Mix held an online workshop discussing this question aimed at customers from the pet food industry and trade journalists. Katja Görts, a practicing veterinarian, spoke at the event. In her lecture, which lasted around one hour, she presented the medicinal plants turmeric, frankincense, meadowsweet and willow.

Kräuter Mix vaccinates against Covid-19

A Kräuter Mix company vaccination program saw 200 employees receive their first Covid-19 shot. Company doctor Dr. Tobias Weigand was joined by Dr. Michaela Maria Arnold from the Gerolzhofen Medical Center to administer the Biontech/Pfizer vaccine, with the pair giving one shot every three minutes from early morning until late afternoon.

Medicinal plants for animal health

Pet owners are increasingly showing an interest in traditional medicine, such as phytotherapy. They often particularly value closeness to nature and are markedly more accepting of naturally derived medicines. After all, the use of medicinal herbs is in no way limited to humans.

Interzoo digital: June 1–4, 2021

Access the whole world of the pet industry, network and discover the latest trends and products, all in just one click? This year, the world-leading Interzoo trade fair has gone entirely online and is all set to take place between June 1–4, 2021. Kräuter Mix will exhibit at Interzoo.

Tasty treats for healthy horses

When it comes to horse treats, dried fruit and vegetables are a healthy and tasty alternative. They can be added to feed or enjoyed straight from the hand and are a useful supplementary feed for making sure horses get the vitamins and nutrients they need naturally and without added sugar.

Fire in production

On April 26, a fire broke out at one of our germ reduction plants, affecting the drying unit. Thankfully, no one was injured. Current information suggests a technical defect was to blame for the fire. The plant should be fully repaired within six to eight weeks.

Celebrating what we love

In 2019, the United Nations declared May 21 each year International Tea Day. On the initiative of The German Tea & Herbal Infusions Association, in Germany the day is celebrated as ‘Tea Day’. So, come celebrate with us! After all, a love of tea connects people all across the globe day in, day out. To make sure there’s enough to go round, Kräuter Mix supplies customers from industry with a whole range of herbal and fruit infusions, both as individual ingredients and blends.

Since 2014, the World Gin Awards, which honor the world’s best juniper-based spirits, have become an annual tradition whereby gins from more than 50 countries are critically judged by a panel of experts. This year saw a record-breaking number of entries, with more than 800 different gins submitted. As a supplier of juniper berries and other botanicals for gin distillation, Kräuter Mix once again sponsored the prestigious event.

Anyone who trusts in products and services from Kräuter Mix can consider themselves well looked after. This was revealed by the results of our latest online survey. 80 percent of customers surveyed expressed their satisfaction, while 85 percent would recommend us. Biofach goes digital from February 17 to 19

Since 1990, Biofach is the place for people to share their passion for organic food and the organic market, while also meeting new people and striking up conversations. This year, the trade fair is not being held in Nuremberg (Germany) as usual, but instead is taking place completely online for the first time. And Kräuter Mix will also be making an online appearance at all three days of the fair at www.biofach.de.

Cycling for children in need

This year, 60 Kräuter Mix employees once again took up the “Cycle to work” scheme. Between June 1 and September 30, all 60 pedaled their way to work. And that’s not all! For every kilometer cycled, the company donated ten cents to Mix for Kids.

Bringing holiday spices to feed supplements

Holiday spices for animals? While that might sound a little absurd, it actually isn’t. Plants in the form of feed supplements help to prevent diseases in pets and livestock and can also serve as remedies in case of illness – especially for boosting the immune system during the cold and wet season. To this end, Kräuter Mix offers both individual ingredients like aniseed, cinnamon and ginger as well as spice mixes.

Juniper – from herbal remedy to popular drink

Gin is the trend quite literally on (almost) everyone’s lips. Besides the omnipresent classic that is a gin and tonic, the legendary bar staple has become the star ingredient of a whole host of cocktails and has developed into a crowd-pleasing in-drink in recent years.

Covid-19 cases at Kräuter Mix

(Updated: October 28, 2020) On October 14, 2020, the first case of Covid-19 was reported among Kräuter Mix employees. As a result, over 400 employees were tested for the coronavirus. Nineteen tested positive. Business operations can continue as usual without any further restrictions thanks to our robust Health and Safety Plan.

The trade fairs taking place in 2020 – and those that aren’t

(Updated: September 23, 2020) As a producer and distributor of plant-based raw materials, Kräuter Mix regularly has its own stand at trade fairs across Germany and Europe. In 2020 too, the company had hoped to present its dried natural products – herbs, vegetables and spices both as individual ingredients as well as in mixes – to a broad audience from trade and industry.

Kräuter Mix celebrates 35 long-serving employees

Thirty-five highly valued employees are celebrating their Kräuter Mix work anniversaries, looking back on between ten and 50 years at the company. The firm’s longest serving staff member is managing partner Christoph Mix.

Successful EMAS audit

Kräuter Mix has been EMAS certified since 2015. EMAS stands for “Eco-Management and Audit Scheme” and is the world’s most discerning system when it comes to sustainable and exemplary environmental management. As an internationally active family-owned business, Kräuter Mix holds this certification, developed by the European Union, to document its efforts to go above and beyond what is required by law to protect the environment, continuously improve its environmental performance, and report on the relevant activities regularly in the form of an environmental statement. In 2020, the company once again successfully passed its annual audit.

Support for children with cancer

Over the past few days, Thorsten Ellmauer brought 575 packs of herbal tea to E-Center, an Edeka grocery store in Kitzingen. The fragrant 100-gram bags were donated by Kräuter Mix. The Abtswind-based company manufactured the tea and packaged it as “Ottos Kräutertee” (Otto’s herbal tea) and provided it to Thorsten Ellmauer free of charge.

Coronavirus information

Since the first reports of the outbreak of a respiratory disease caused by an infection with a new coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) in Wuhan City in China’s Hubei province, Kräuter Mix has been following the assessments and recommendations of the Robert Koch Institute and the German Federal Institute for Risk Assessment. Furthermore, Kräuter Mix is closely monitoring any current information about the Covid-19 situation.

Over 50,000 international industry visitors are expected to visit Biofach with its around 3,500 exhibitors from 100 countries and two additional exhibition halls. These numbers demonstrate that ecological awareness is growing around the globe, and so is the market for organic products. The world’s leading organic trade show opens its doors in Nuremberg for the 31st time from February 12–15, 2020.
