Twelve young people join Kräuter Mix as trainees and student trainees
For those starting their vocational training at Kräuter Mix in Abtswind and Wiesentheid, September 1 is the date to remember. In reality, however, it’s not just the annual start day that is set up to help the new arrivals. Over the days that follow, the focus is firmly on getting everyone settled in, helping them find their bearings and learn new skills.
This year, a total of nine trainees have chosen to start their careers at Kräuter Mix and will spend the next years training as industrial and forwarding clerks, warehouse logistics specialists, electronics technicians for operating technology, machine and plant operators and chemical laboratory assistants. In addition, the company will also welcome three students undertaking placements as part of a dual work-study program. While their studies won’t begin until October 1, the student trainees are nonetheless included in the orientation to make sure they get to know the team. After all, as part of both their practical training at the company and internal projects, they will be in regular contact with their new colleagues undertaking traineeships. The dual work-study program in Food Management is run in partnership with the DHBW in Heilbronn. From 2025, Kräuter Mix is also partnering with the DHBW in Mergentheim to offer a bachelor’s degree in international business.

Sharing first impressions and overcoming shyness
“As we start the academic year, our aim is for the young people who have chosen Kräuter Mix to share all their new impressions and ideas among the group with the other new starters,” explains Alicia Schall from the Human Resources department, who is part of the trainee support team. Schall continued to explain that getting to know each other and forming new bonds plays a vital role in overcoming any initial shyness about new beginnings.
As such, the induction on September 1 and 2 is designed to offer a good mix – from arriving together to getting to know each other, introductory organizational information and internal company training.

A good mix of fun, games and introductory training
This year’s agenda is pretty full! The induction is set to include plenty of icebreakers, a sensory-inspired quiz about the Kräuter Mix product range, a short lesson on herbology, the chance to produce herb butter and non-alcoholic ‘mocktails’ as well as lunch with members of the management team and their future trainers.
Amongst all the social activities are introductory tours of the production and logistics facilities as well as basic training on occupational safety, fire protection and company-specific hygiene rules. “When you first arrive, it’s no mean feat to find your way around our sprawling company sites in Abtswind and Wiesentheid, which is why we give the new trainees a tour of all the most important areas,” adds HR administrator Hannah Kundmüller, who is also part of the trainee support team. Kundmüller and her colleagues are of course also available for the new starters to ask questions over the induction period.
In addition, the company also uses a tried-and-tested onboarding process to help the new trainees acclimatise. The onboarding material in question has already been used for a wide variety of training courses to great success and is well structured with specific points of contact for the relevant departments.
