Blind tasting and awards ceremony in London
What the Oscars are to the film industry, the World Gin Awards are to producers of the much-loved juniper spirit. Every February, gin enthusiasts look eagerly to London when the prizes for the world’s very best gins are awarded across eleven different categories. As a leading supplier of premium-quality juniper berries, as well as a broad range of herbs, fruits, roots, and flowers for gin distillation, Kräuter Mix once again sponsored the event.
This year, the international jury, chaired by renowned gin expert David T. Smith, received 1,200 entries from over 25 different countries. Kräuter Mix’s very own Nina Bauer also had a place on the panel of experts. The sales manager, who is responsible for botanicals (otherwise known as gin ingredients) at Kräuter Mix, took part in the blind tasting at the venerable Caledonian Club in London where she judged a number of distillates. The national winners were then awarded gold, silver, and bronze in the eleven categories, which are all based on different types of production, such as Classic Gin and London Dry Gin.
The top three finishers from the national shortlists qualified for the finals of the World Gin Awards and faced the jury’s verdict. This year’s awards ceremony included a festive gala dinner in the ballroom of the Waldorf Hilton hotel, where Nina Bauer and David T. Smith presented the winners with their prizes.
